My heritage interests include Victoriana, local history, photography, research, family history, buses and motor transport and maritime studies including Titanic and other shipwrecks. I have self published a couple of titles [Beech Books].
I was one of the founder members of Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery and the Friends of RSH Hospital Chapel and I am part of the advisory resource panel to the National Federation of Cemetery Friends [and also designed and edit the websitehttp://cemeteryfriends.org.uk ] I also designed and edit the website for the Friends of RSH Hospital Chapel http://friendsRSHchapel.co.uk and the City of Southampton Societyhttp://coss.org.uk
I am a member of West End Local History Society, Devon Family History Society, Friends of Southampton's Museums, Archives and Galleries, various cemetery friends groups, Huguenot Society of Britain and Ireland, Historic Scotland, The National Trust, West of England Historic Transport Trust, Southampton Local History Forum, CERSA [Dorset], Plym Valley Heritage, City of Southampton Society and the Company Secretary of Friends of RSH Hospital Chapel.
I administer the Graves at Risk Register on behalf of the National Federation of Cemetery Friends and co-edited two handbooks/guides on cemeteries. I am a member of the Funerary Monuments Group which advises and monitors on memorial safety in cemeteries.
I am a member of the Planning and Environmental sub committee of the City of Southampton Society with a watching brief on major developments, listed buildings, conservation areas and open spaces.
Books published include The Cholera Years, The Mackay-Bennett the funeral ship at the Titanic disaster [out of print] The Cable Ships of Turnchapel. The Building of Plymouth Breakwater [out of print] Emblems and Symbols - a look at Victorian funeral traditions and Find the Lady, a fictional account as to how in 1940 the destination of the RMS Queen Elizabeth was hidden from the enemy.
